Have a supplemental health plan for you and your family.
Perhaps you hear words like “cancer,” “stroke” or “heart attack” and assume they only happen to someone older. The truth is, today’s most common catastrophic illnesses and injuries can affect anyone at any time.
Plus, with a serious health event, you could end up owing thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket expenses from high deductibles, copays, out-of-network and uncovered expenses. Active Care can help you pay for these bills, as well as day-to-day purchases and ongoing payments.

An unexpected illness
Last year, one of David’s family members was diagnosed with cancer. He saw first-hand how expenses added up during the course of treatment. He then made the decision to get supplemental insurance. When he was unfortunately diagnosed with cancer later that year, Active Care provided a direct cash payment when it was needed most.
Expensive extended treatment
Even when using sick time, vacation time and FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act) leave, David’s treatment plan still required a two-month unpaid absence from work. Additional costs included transportation to and from the treatment clinic, numerous doctor visits, tests and new medications, along with the monthly payments that didn’t stop just because he was sick.
Cash that David and his wife controlled
David filed a claim immediately and received a lump-sum payment of $60,000 from his Active Care policy. He and his wife were able to avoid debt, pay the high costs of treatment, cover the mortgage and purchase the basics so David could focus on getting well.

CURRENT EMPLOYER HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE: $7,000 major medical deductible
ACTIVE CARE LUMP-SUM BENEFIT: $10,000
ACTIVE CARE COVERAGE: cancer with optional hospital and accident benefits
Mary did her best to exercise and stay healthy and never expected to fracture her hip and dislocate her shoulder while out hiking. With a large medical deductible and other costs, Mary was glad she had supplemental health insurance to help her pay for medical bills. She filed a claim on her Active Care policy and received these benefits:
|ICU stay, 3 days:||$1,200|
|Skilled-care nursing facility stay, 5 days:||$1,000|
|Emergency room visit:||$250|
|Doctor office visit, 2 visits:||$60|
|Major Medical Deductible:||$7,000|
WITH ACTIVE CARE
With Active Care, Mary’s hospital and accident benefits helped cover the cost of her treatment.
WITHOUT ACTIVE CARE
If Mary didn’t have supplemental health insurance, her costs wouldn’t have met the deductible and she would have paid the full cost out-of-pocket.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you’re diagnosed with cancer or suffer a heart attack, stroke or accidental injury, health insurance offered by your employer (often called “major medical insurance”) will help cover large expenses. These can include common treatments or surgery, and payments are made directly to health care providers. Active Care supplemental health insurance is for expenses not covered by major medical insurance. These include high deductibles, copays, medical bills, treatment options you might otherwise feel you can’t afford, replacement for lost income and unexpected expenses associated with care. Also, once you file a claim and it is approved, Active Care pays you (or someone you designate) directly with a lump-sum cash benefit for cancer, heart attack, stroke or critical illnesses. It’s cash that you use without restrictions or limitations.
Active Care is in no way a substitution to major medical insurance. You can use both Active Care and your other major medical insurance to help deal with a covered illness or injury. Major medical insurance helps pay for common expenses like doctor visits, surgeries and treatments. Active Care helps you pay for additional costs associated with a covered serious illness or injury, like unpaid leave from work, household expenses and unexpected out-of-pocket expenses.
Yes! The average annual deductible for single, individual coverage is more than $4,000, and for a family, it’s more than $8,0008. Active Care pays you cash to help cover a high deductible and the unforeseen costs of a covered illness or medical events, like cancer, a heart attack or stroke.
